Nodus Fall and the Elden Ring Comparison

Every big outlet went there within an hour of the trailer. It says something real about the footage, and nothing at all about the combat system.

Kotaku’s headline said the Genshin Impact studio was leaning into Elden Ring. Polygon went with Elden Ring meets Monster Hunter. GameSpot said it sure looks like multiplayer Elden Ring. GamesBeat called it a soulslike fused with Monster Hunter DNA. Four desks, one afternoon, same reach.

HoYoverse used none of those words. Their language is multi-mythology co-op action and realistic fantasy, which is what the Nodus Fall pages here lead with.

What the footage genuinely shares

Scale and framing, mostly. Kotaku described environments built to make players feel tiny, plus a dragon, a phoenix, and a burning titan. Trailer shots are composed the way FromSoftware composes them — small figure, enormous silhouette, wide sky. Combat looked deliberate and weighty rather than flashy-anime.

The Monster Hunter half comes from the loop: a squad, one gigantic target, and gear pulled off the kill. Beebom read the trailer as class-based characters in epic boss fights and said the loop bore a striking resemblance to Monster Hunter.

Where the comparison breaks

Nobody has confirmed a stamina bar, an i-frame dodge, a bonfire equivalent, invasions, or anything else that makes a soulslike a soulslike. GamesBeat was explicit that it’s unknown whether Nodus Fall is multiplayer-focused like Elden Ring Nightreign or a traditional soulslike you dip in and out of.

Elden Ring is also a single-player game with optional co-op. Nodus Fall’s marketing puts co-op first — team up, break the deadlock, restore order together. That’s a different design centre, and it’s covered in multiplayer.

Why the label matters at all

Because “soulslike” sets expectations about difficulty, death penalties, and build depth that HoYoverse has never promised. The only systems on record are Weavers, Divine Skills taken from enemies, relics, and reported Styles — all on gameplay.

Read the comparisons as an accurate description of how the trailer feels. Don’t read them as a spec sheet.
